Circular stairs are valued for their compact footprint. Typical sizing starts from 60″ diameter minimum for code, up to 84″ diameter or bigger. The height and diameter of the spiral are key factors determined by preference and space constraints. Further, a custom landing may help the circular stairway end in the right location. Standard landings are a basic rectangle with either a straight walk-off, side-turn, or corner mount as shown here.
In addition, welded steel spiral stairs add an increased level of security and stability. Instead of a kit, whose parts are designed to be ultra-light for shipping and whose bolts can loosen over time, Great Lakes spiral stairs are designed with strong parts to limit flexing.
Finally, customers often purchase LED tread lighting for visibility and added confidence. Illumination for almost any set of steps tangibly enhances the user experience and increase safety. That’s why some municipalities require illuminated stair treads, and Great Lakes Metal Fabrication is one of the few staircase contractors in the USA who provide long-lasting and low-profile LED lighting for spiral stairs.
